PCW Criterium Race Report

From Darin;

It was a good race today, about 40 guys lined up for the Masters 4/5 in Sheboygan. I liked the course, once again in an industrial park. I hung up towards the front third for most of the race, Tony P. and some guy went for a prime and ended up with a good lead so they went for the breakaway and it stuck with Tony winning. I felt very good today and I hoped my sprint training in the last few weeks would help me get a better finish, it was a uphill sprint to the line. On the last lap I held my position going into the final corner, a fast 90 degree right hand turn. I let the guy ahead of me get a little gap so I could carry more speed through the corner (the whole race it would slow down there and have the yo yo effect going up to the line). As I was coming out of the turn with the bike fully leaned over the rear tire broke traction and I did a high speed power slide until it regained grip and snapped the bike straight up. After I regained control I sprinted to the line, not gaining any spots but not losing any either. Needless to say I was very disappointed with a 16th place finish overall. Also my rear tire was brand new, maybe it wasn't scuffed in all the way. It did take me back to my days of motorcycle road-racing where every corner was a power slide but full leathers made it more fun!
